         Swaziland

 

Swaziland is a small landlocked country that is surrounded by South Africa and Mozambique. It is one of the few countries in the world that is governed by a monarchy.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO

Angling The rivers are well stocked with Scalies, Yellow Fish, Barbell, Bream, Eels, and in some areas where the water is warm tiger-fish.

Camping and Caravanning There are camping and caravan sites at Timbali, in the Ezulwini Valley, and near the hot springs at Siphofaneni, on the Usutu River.

Curious Swaziland is one of the richest sources of curious in Africa.

Hot Springs  there are hot springs at the Royal Swazi Hotel and Spa at Siphofaneni.

Sight Seeing The Milwane Wildlife Sanctuary has trail rides and walks.

Rural Life The Swazi people are proud people, and their costume is brightly coloured.


PLACES OF INTEREST

Mkaya Nature Reserve  is one of the best reserves that open 24 hours a day. This reserve has become as a refuge for endangered species. Elephants, white rhino, hippo, zebra, tsessebe and other antelope are predominate; the only carnivores that are most likely to be seen are the jackal and hyena. Bird watching is excellent and the river rafting is unavoidable. Accommodation by means of luxury safari tents is provided.

Hiker’s Paradise  On the north- western boundary is the Malalotja Nature Reserve, which is the highest and a hiker’s paradise. The second and third highest peaks in Swaziland are Ngwena at 1829 m and Silotwane at 1680m respectively and also they have the highest waterfall. For bird lovers there are bald ibis and swallows nests that you can get close to. Over 1000 species of plant life makes a visit very impressive. Accommodation in log cabins is available.

Lush Landscapes  The Mlawula Nature Reserve is in the east, Which is made up of 4 conservation areas. The immense growth of vegetation and floral types attracts plenty of birds and insects such as Bennet’s Woodpecker, Oribi, African Broadbill and many more.


MAJOR CITIES

The administration capital is Mbabane with a population of 54 000. Manzini is another major city with a population of 65 000.
